OWATC Introduces a New Logo and Branding Campaign

August 11, 2008

Main Campus LogoOgden-Weber Applied Technology College is introducing a new branding campaign with a revamped logo and an emphasis in technical education. For years, the public along with faculty and staff have referred to the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College as the “ATC.”  The problem is that most people don’t really know what “ATC” means.

OWATC has gone through a number of name changes since its humble beginnings in 1971. First it was a Skills Center, then a Vocational Center. Later it became an Applied Technology Center and since 2001, a College.  With all these changes, the mission and purpose have not changed.  The College still trains people to be job-ready in a hands-on environment, in a short time, very affordably.

Roy Logo“The problem is,” stated college President, Collette Mercier at a recent staff meeting,  “ATC doesn’t mean anything to most people and it doesn’t explain what we do.  When we say we’re a 'tech college,' people immediately get that.”  One of the main reasons for the change is that the nickname “ATC” was first used when the college became an Applied Technology Center.  “Now that we’re a college, we want people to know that,” said Mercier.  “We want people to recognize that as a technical college, we are a different choice for education, and very often, the best choice.”

With that, she proposed changing the reference from Ogden-Weber ATC to the Ogden-Weber tech college.  She challenged the entire staff, faculty and administration to begin making the change immediately.

Over the course of the next six months both names will be used to make the transition easier for the community  to make the connection. The new logos (for both the main campus, and the Roy campus) will appear immediately on all new forms, publications and the website.  Other logo changes will be made on campus as budget permits.
