“Let’s Go To the Movies”

The Ogden Weber ATC’s Cosmetology Department started off the holiday season with a big boom. On October 27 th, students from the Ogden Weber campus and Roy campus put their heads together to create a fun filled evening for the Ogden community. The students put on a hair show entitled “Let’s Go To the Movies.” Each student had the opportunity to share their talents individually or in a group by choosing a movie and bringing models into the department to be created into that movie’s “star”. There were a variety of movies including: “Phantom of the Opera”, “101 Dalmatians”, Miss Congeniality”, Edward Scissor Hands”, Finding Nemo”, and more. Students in the nail program also participated by choosing a movie and doing nail art on models based on that movie’s theme.

Students worked from dawn until dusk getting their model’s hair, nails, makeup and costumes ready for the show that evening. Students brought family members in to be models and it really impressed many students of how supportive their families were. Cosmetology student, Jennifer Lewis, was particularly impressed by her five sisters who took time away from their busy schedules to be models for her exhibit in the show. All who participated enjoyed the experience very much. There was so much talent shown from each student that day, and everyone worked really hard together to make it a fantastic show. Cosmetology student, Aubrey Fellenz, said it simply when she stated: “This experience reminded me of why I love to do hair.” Many students feel the same way.

The hair show was open to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and many people attended. Each guest received two voting ballots where they could vote for their favorite hair exhibit and their favorite nail exhibit. When they left the show the ballots were turned in to the instructors at the door to be accounted for at the end of the evening. Cosmetology instructor, Nancy, said: “The show was very well attended and supported. The students did an awesome job with a whole lot of creativity. It was a very positive thing and we should do more of these types of activities.”

This show was a great way to publicize to the community what students in the Cosmetology department have to offer. There was a lot of planning, time, and effort put forth to make sure that this show was a big success and anyone who attended can attest that it was a major success.

The overall winner of the hair show was the “Edward Scissor Hands” exhibit. The OWATC Campus winners were the “Exotic Super Heroes with Extreme Powers” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The Roy Campus winners were, “Finding Nemo” and “Hocus Pocus.” The nail program winner was “The Lion King.”

The Cosmetology department has had a really positive response from this hair show, and hope to have more opportunities like this in the future. Thanks to all those who helped make this activity such a success.
