Competency-based Evaluation
All training at the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College is competency-based. Competency-based education is learner-centered, allowing students to progress as skills and competencies are mastered. Employment competencies are defined by performance standards established by employer teams specific to each program. Instructors monitor completion time and evaluate student performance as outlined on the Competency Summary or Student Training Record (STR). Students demonstrating competency at required performance levels are awarded “CR” upon completion of all course competencies. Performance standards for competency demonstration are set by business/industry. In general, written tests must be completed at a minimum of 80%.
The Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College curriculum is based on the most current technology. Students are required to update to the current certificate, degree, or program outline if they have been withdrawn for six months or more.

Recognition and Certification
Students will be eligible for a Certificate of Completion or Proficiency when they:
- Successfully complete all of the required courses, and
- Master the necessary competencies.
Apprentices that fulfill the on-the-job training and formalized work-related classroom instruction may go on to receive state, national, and trade organization certification.
The skills acquired by completing an apprenticeship program are portable and transferable. They are based on state and national skill standards. The Office of Apprenticeship, local employer advisory teams, and the Utah State Office of Education define the required skills and certify the training.
