Accounting is an exciting career that puts you right in the heart of a business. It serves as the financial information function to let a business know how they have done and to plan for the future.
If you want to be an entry-level accountant, the Accounting Technician Certificate is what you want to complete. With one year of training you may work as an accounting clerk in a large business to record, sort, and file accounting information. You may also specialize to work in cash, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, or purchases. In a smaller business you may work as a bookkeeper where you may help managers and owners summarize and interpret the accounting information. Competencies include a broad range of business skills and basic accounting skills. You will learn how to use an office calculator and to use accounting software. Through the elective courses, students develop advanced accounting skills and focus on those job skills they enjoy.

Hi, I’m Larry Patane. I have seven years of full-time industry experience in accounting and many years of part-time and voluntary experience in several organizations. I have earned a Master’s Degree in Education – M.Ed. I really enjoy teaching people and have been doing it for 34 years. The thing I enjoy most is seeing the transformation in students from when they first get here to when they leave with confidence and a job.
