Accounting is an exciting career that puts you right in the heart of a business. It serves as the financial information function to let a business know how they have done and how to plan for the future.
If you want to be an entry-level accountant, the Accounting Technician certificate is what you want to complete. With one year of training you may work as an accounting clerk in a large business to record, sort, and file accounting information. You may also specialize to work in cash, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, or purchases. In a smaller business you may work as a bookkeeper where you may help managers and owners summarize and interpret accounting information. Competencies include a broad range of business skills and basic accounting skills. You will learn how to use an office calculator and accounting software. Through the elective courses, students develop advanced accounting skills and focus on those job skills they enjoy.
