Course Descriptions

Electricians are highly paid skilled craftsmen that are responsible for electrical distribution systems. This job field is currently in very high demand.

As an Electrician Apprentice you will install and maintain electrical systems that provide light, power, heat, refrigeration, and air-conditioning. You will place wiring in buildings and repair electronic controls on equipment.Some of your responsibilities will be reading blueprints and placing electrical conduits inside walls, partitions, ceilings, and other areas. You will feed insulated wire through conduits and install various kinds of electrical equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, outlets, and switches.The approximate completion time for the Electrician Apprentice Certificate is 810 hours of classroom training on the tech college campus and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training.

Students gain valuable employer-requested skills when the college partners with industry employers. Employers advise the faculty on up-to-date processes and knowledge.

Your Instructor(s)

John Kristensen, electrical instructor/advisor is a Master Electrician with over 15 years of full-time experience in the field. This experience includes both industrial and commercial construction and service troubleshooting repair. In 1997 Mr. Kristensen started teaching the electrical apprenticeship evening program at the OWATC and went to full-time instruction in 1999 for a total of 16 years teaching experience. He is certified as a Master Trainer Instructor through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and also received a Diploma of Completion of the National Instructor Training Institute and Certification as a Master Instructor/Trainer through the University of Tennessee, sponsored by the National Joint Apprentice Training Committee.
