Course Descriptions

Residential and commercial plumber apprentices are licensed by the State of Utah. Apprentices must complete 8000 hours of on-the-job training with a licensed journeyman plumbing contractor and 810 hours of related classroom instruction at Ogden-Weber Tech College as a licensed apprentice. Licensure is aquired through the Utah Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing.

As a Plumber Apprentice, you will be working in residential and commercial buildings assembling, installing, and repairing water, drainage, and heating systems including plumbing fixtures. You will install water pipes, sinks, bathtubs, water heaters, dishwashers, and heating and air-conditioning units. Your responsibilities will include reading blueprints, cutting, threading, and assembling water pipes, joints, welding, soldering, and caulking water pipes. You will use wrenches, drills, reamers, hammers, chisels, saws, welding machines, and bracing equipment. Individuals must complete a minimum of 8,000 hours of paid on-the-job training as a licensed apprentice, complete 810 hours of related-classroom instruction, and pass the Utah Licensing Exam. Students gain valuable employer-requested skills when the college partners with industry employers. Employers advise the faculty on up-to-date processes and knowledge.

Your Instructor(s)

Trina Hansen, apprenticeship coordinator, has over 20 years of experience in education and administration. She has an Associate of Science from Weber State University. Trina also earned certificates from the Ogden-Weber Tech College in office administration and instruction development. She is a certified master trainer through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

In 2005, Trina became responsible for coordinating and managing the apprenticeship programs including electrical, heating-ventilation-air conditioning, heavy equipment operator, plumbing, sheet metal, and sign maker. She currently advises student in ways to complete their desired apprenticeships.
