Medical Assistant

Medical Assistant

A medical assistant is considered to be the most versatile health care professional, because you will be trained in administrative (front office) and clinical (back office) skills. A drug screen and background check will be completed on students in this program and any felonies may interfere with your ability to complete an externship and sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA )exam.

The Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College Medical Assisting Program Certificate of Completion is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of theMedical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs can be contacted at 1361 Park Street Clearwater, FL 33756 (727) 210-2350. Graduates of the OWATC Medical Assistant Program are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

Medical assisting practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures in ambulatory settings. Students will be required to complete a 240-hour externship, without pay, in an area clinic or medical office.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you are enrolling in any health occupation program, any misdemeanor or felony conviction that you have on your record, may negatively impact your chances of completing the program, being placed on an externship site, and employment in a health care career. See your specific program coordinator for more detailed information.

Your Instructor

Hello, I’m Emma Anderson, CMA. I have 18 years of industry experience, and I really love teaching here. The thing I enjoy most is watching students advance in the program and gain self esteem as they prove to themselves that they can be successful. I would enjoy the chance to discuss this great program with you.
