A Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in a retail or hospital setting to store, prepare, and dispense medicines. Responsibilities include inventory, ordering, labeling, storing, and distributing medicines, working with patient records, billing information, gathering information for the pharmacist, and the distribution of printed information to the patient.

Individuals completing the OWATC Pharmacy Technician program who are high school graduates and at least 18 years of age are eligible to sit for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCB) or the certification exam, the ExCPT.  Successful completion of the training program and these examinations meets the requirements for Utah licensure as a Pharmacy Technician. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

• Student must complete all requirements for the program within one year of starting the program
• Student must be a high school graduate at the time of program completion
• Student must be 18 years old at the time of program completion
• To become licensed, a student must have a valid driver’s license or a state-issued ID.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you are enrolling in any health occupation program, any misdemeanor or felony conviction relating to drug offenses, assault/violent crimes, sexual assault, fraud, or theft that you have on your record, will result in the college not being able to place you in a clinical or externship site. As a result, you will not be able to complete the program.  See your program coordinator for more detailed information.
