Thank you for your interest in the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College’s (OWATC) Phlebotomy course. This course is lock-step and seating is limited, so register early to ensure a place in the program. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For questions regarding enrollment, you may call 801.627.8420.
Phlebotomy Technicians are important members of the health care team working with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and patients. Their primary role is to collect blood for accurate and reliable laboratory testing. This is usually accomplished by venipuncture or capillary collection. Training is designed to provide the learner the theory and hands-on skills required for an entry-level Phlebotomy Technician. Phlebotomy Technicians are multi-skilled professionals who, in addition to phlebotomy techniques, must be skilled in the collection, transportation, and processing of laboratory specimens, customer service, and safety compliance.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are enrolling in any health occupation program, any misdemeanor or felony conviction that you have on your record, may negatively impact your chances of completing the program, being placed on an externship site, and employment in a health care career. See your specific program coordinator for more detailed information.
High School Students:
High School students must be 18 years old when they enroll in the Phlebotomy course. If you meet these requirements, obtain a voucher from your high school applied technology education coordinator. Bring the voucher with you when you come to enroll. High school students must pay the $65 Book & Supply fee.
Students who are out of the Ogden or Weber school district will need to have their Career and Technical Education coordinator fax a letter requesting permission to enroll in the Phlebotomy course. This fax should be sent to Lee Nelson, OWATC counselor, the fax number is 801.392.2140.
Students are only allowed to miss four (4) hours during the course. Students must also be able to spend two days (10 hours each day) on their externship at the end of the course.

What's Happening in the Phlebotomy Technician program
Your Instructor
Hello, I’m Emma Anderson CMA and this is a picture of me with one of my students. I have 18 years of industry experience, and I really love teaching here. The thing I enjoy most is watching students advance in the program and gain self esteem as they prove to themselves that they can be successful. I would enjoy the chance to discuss this great program with you.
