As of July 1, 2011 the Utah Transit Authority has significantly changed the student Ed Pass program. Starting in July, students may only purchase an Ed Pass through the UTA Web site. The price for a basic 30-day pass (bus and TRAX service) is $56.75 plus a $2.00 UTA processing fee. The price for a premium express bus and FrontRunner pass is $135.00 plus a $2.00 UTA processing fee. Both options are a discount of approximately $20 per month from the regular price.
UTA has made the strategic decision to no longer allow college employees to purchase a discounted Ed Pass. We regret this position and hope they will reconsider in the future.
Students are required to tap on and tap off each time they ride using the ed pass, and to carry valid identification that matches the name on the pass.
If you are a sponsored student, please contact your sponsor directly to find out how this will affect you.
All questions or concerns relating to the Ed Pass program should be directed to UTA by visiting their website or calling customer service at 1-888- RIDE-UTA (743-3882).

Frequently Asked Questions
When are passes available? Starting October 1, 2009 in the Enrollment office.
How much does a pass cost? If you are currently enrolled in a program and pay regular student fees of $15 per month, then you are eligible for a UTA Ed Pass. You just pay a $5 activation charge to receive your card and get into the system. If you are a student who does not pay monthly fees, such as those in apprenticeships, high school, and some lock-step programs like Pharmacy Tech, then you may buy a pass for $45 if you wish. If you are not sure, stop by enrollment or the Cashier to find out.
When do passes expire? The Ed Pass is a benefit of being a student so it is valid while you have an active schedule. If you withdraw, then your pass will be de-activated. If you return to school and still have your old card, your pass will be reinstated for no additional cost. All passes expire at the same time: July 31, 2010. In other words, your pass is good for as long as you are enrolled in a fee-paying program through July, whichever ends sooner.
What does the benefit include? These passes are good for unlimited transportation on UTA busses, FrontRunner and Trax through July, 2010. The value of this benefit is over $1,500!
How do I get one? Starting October 1, pick up your pass at the enrollment office in the Student Services Building, and then visit the cashier, the drop box or our online payment website to pay. Charges must be paid immediately or the pass may become deactivated.
Are employees eligible? Yes. Employees may purchase a pass for $45 as a benefit of employment. If you are also attending classes on a College tuition waiver, you are considered an employee and pay the employee rate. Work study employees or students employed in a student-only job (and who pay monthly fees) pay the lower student rate.
Do I need a Student ID? To ride any UTA transit using an Ed pass, you MUST carry valid identification with you at all times, and a Driver’s license, other state identification will work for this purpose. If you would like to get a student ID, just visit the Enrollment office for a form to get your card at the Bookstore. You may be charged $10 if you have not previously paid or if you lost your card.
How can I get UTA transportation schedules? Go to www.rideuta.com [2] or call 1-888- RIDE-UTA . Printed bus schedules are also available at the Cashier window and at the Bookstore.
I am a high school student attending OWATC; can I get a pass? Any high school student who attends class on one of OWATC’s main campuses or an official OWATC program taught in a high school may purchase a pass for $45.
Can I get a pass for a family member? Ed passes are only available for students and are not transferrable. Family members can obtain a pass by becoming a student of the College.
Which transportation options area available with my Ed Pass? The Ed Pass provides unlimited public transportation through the expiration date on all UTA busses, FrontRunner and Trax. Ski Busses and Paratransit are not included.
Will my sponsor pay for this? Who pays the $5 activation charge or the $45 fee, if applicable, is a matter between you and your sponsor (e.g., DWS, Voc Rehab, your employer, etc.) so please check with them. You are ultimately responsible for all charges against your student account.
What if I lose my pass? Replacement cards will cost $20.
What if my pass is stolen? It is important to report stolen Ed Passes by calling our Enrollment office at 801-627-8463 right away. If you do not, and your pass is used by someone and confiscated by UTA, you will not be eligible to receive a new one without a police report documenting the theft. Replacement cards cost $20 for any reason.
Is the Ed Pass good for Paratransit? No. Paratransit is a special program through UTA which requires screening and separate rules. This system is only available directly through UTA. For your convenience, the cashier window will continue to carry your renewable stickers.
Where can I park my bike on campus? Bike racks are available on campus in front of the Union Building, the manufacturing trades building and the business building.
Do I have to tap on/tap off? UTA requires students to tap on when they enter transit and to tap off when they exit. If they fail to do this, passes may be de-activated by UTA and students will have to come to our campus to have them turned back on. We reserve the right to charge a re-activation fee or to refuse to turn the pass back on if we suspect misuse.
My pass is not working. What should I do? If you try to use your pass and get a red light at a tap-on or off station, or a UTA employee flags it, please make a note of the date, time and route where your pass failed to work. Then bring your card to our Enrollment office so we can assist you. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone suspected of misusing the pass or system.
Can I punch a hole in my card to fit a keychain or lanyard? Each card contains a microchip and wiring so damaging the card may render it useless. If you alter the card and it no longer works, you will be charged $20 for a replacement.
