Electricians are highly paid skilled craftsmen that are responsible for electrical distribution systems. This job field is currently in very high demand.
While the apprenticeship certificates meet the need of individuals who are already working in industry, the Electrician Technician certificate was developed to meet the preparatory needs of individuals who are not yet employed in the field. The electrician technician certificate allows high school and adult students to gain knowledge and hands-on experience before entering an apprenticeship program. This serves a three fold purpose.
The first is to provide employers with a trained workforce having superior entry-level skills. Second is a training program to help high school and adult students decide if the electrical trades are the right pathway for them. Finally, this certificate provides an accelerated program to meet the education requirements of the state licensing board.
The Electrical program also provides several 16-hour continuing education and exam preparation courses to meet the needs of the States’ Re-licensing requirements. Continuing education and electrician technician education is offered in an open-entry, open-exit, competency-based format.

Hello, we’re John Kristensen and Kelly Kennedy. We each have over 20 years of Electrical field experience and 10 years of working at OWATC teaching. One of the best things about our job is seeing students find their own kind of success. So many people think that to be successful you have to have a four-year degree. Electricians can make just as much money as those with four-year degrees. That is success! Electricians are in high demand, so we would enjoy the chance to discuss the opportunities in the Electrical trades with you.
