IT GRANT
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the OWATC a grant in the amount of $500,000 for a three-year enhancement of its Information Technology programs under the Technology Based Learning Initiative (TBL). The grant will give an additional 300 students IT job training leading to industry recognized credentials and significantly improved career opportunities, increasing the college’s current IT program by over 200 percent.
What does this mean for current and future IT students?
The OWATC currently offers 15 IT certifications most in demand by the industry. The grant will expand credential offerings, enhance online course availability, and add new classroom equipment. The grant will also provide students with a 50 percent subsidy for tuition, books and fees.

1 Complete the admissions application and IT grant application. (available at the OWATC Student Services reception desk)
2 Call 801-627-8420 to schedule an appointment to take the required assessments. Pay the enrollment fee. If approved for the grant, 50% of this fee will be reimbursed.
3 Give your completed admissions application to the test administrator at your appointment.

A+ Certification I
Explore physical and functional characteristics of PC devices and components; configure and troubleshoot a PC. This course prepares students for the A+ Essentials certification exam.
A+ Certification II
Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot common operating systems; command prompt use; and basic networking. This course prepares students for the A+ Technician certification exam.
Network+
Use the OSI and 802 networking models to learn networking concepts such as administration, architecture, support, security, and troubleshooting in LAN and WAN environments. This course prepares students for the Network+ certification exam.
Linux+
Plan and install a Linux system: use the desktop manager; maintenance; file systems and kernel; basic command line interface. This course prepares students for the Linux+ certification exam.
Security+
Learn to establish an effective security policy; authentication procedures; encryption standards and implementations; ports and protocols; engage in proactive detection; and response/reporting methods. This course prepares students for the Security+ certification exam.Administering Windows Desktop
Learn advanced administration of Windows client workstations including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance as well as other hardware considerations and network configuration. This course prepares students for the Microsoft certification exam.

Learn the installation, configuration and management of a Windows Server. This course prepares students for the Microsoft certification exam.
Internet Site Designer I
Create, build, and manage world-class Web sites and applications with one of the industry’s leading web authoring tools, Adobe Dreamweaver. This course prepares students for certification as an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE).
Internet Site Designer II
Learn to create animation, advertisements, and various web page components, integrate video into web pages, and develop rich Internet applications using Adobe Flash ActionScript. This course prepares students for certification as an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE).
Internet Technology
Learn the foundational technology standards that sustain the infrastructure of Internet business: Web and e-commerce development, security, server administration, networking, databases and enterprise solutions. This course prepares students for the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Foundations certification exam.Java Programming I
Learn Java programming platforms and technologies for application development or software project management. This course prepares students for the Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) certification exam.
Java Programming II
