
WELDING GRANT
The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded the OWATC a grant in the amount of $1,023,740 for a three-year enhancement of the college’s Welding program under the Community Based Job Training Grant initiative. The overall goal of the project is to enhance the ability of the OWATC Welding program to train new welders and upgrade the training of experienced welders for at least the next decade, providing industry with the hundreds of highly trained welders they need to succeed.
What does this mean for current and future Welding students?
The grant and matching funds will provide funding to completely upgrade the 37 year old welding lab. The funding will also provide upgrade training for a minimum of 200 experienced welders and provide 100 new students an opportunity to enter this high-demand, highly paid field.

How to apply for a Welding scholarship

1 Complete the admissions application and Welding grant application. (available at the OWATC Student Services reception desk)
2 Call 801-627-8420 to schedule an appointment to take the required assessments. Pay the enrollment fee. If approved for the grant, 50% of this fee will be reimbursed.
3 Give your completed admissions application to the test administrator at your appointment.
The Director of Grants will contact you regarding your acceptance.

Now is the time to invest in your employees. Upgraded Welding skills give your company an edge on the competition. With OWATC’s Welding grant covering 50% of training costs and Custom Fit funding providing another 35%, your portion may be as little as 15% of the total cost.

Local employers, Barnes Aerospace and JBT AeroTech, have generously donated funds to provide scholarships for students who are enrolled in our Welding grant. Applications for the scholarships are available in the Manufacturing Technology Building lobby or by clicking on the link below.
