A Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in a retail or hospital setting to store, prepare, and dispense medicines. Responsibilities include inventory, ordering, labeling, storing, and distributing medicines, working with patient records, billing information, gathering information for the pharmacist, the distribution of printed information to the patient. The approximate completion time for the Pharmacy Technician Certificate is 7 to 10 months, maintaining 100% progress. Additional time for certification tests may be necessary.
Individuals completing the OWATC Pharmacy Technician program who are high school graduates and at least 18 years of age are eligible to sit for the Utah Pharmacy Technician Law and Rule Examination and the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. Successful completion of the training program and these examinations meets the requirements for Utah licensure as a Pharmacy Technician.
